WHO IS COMMENTUK?
CommentUK is the first in a new breed of face-to-face communication companies. Specialising in the medium of Corporate Theatre, Comment creates bespoke pieces of live, theatrical face-to-face communication for a host of blue chip international clients & agencies.

CommentUK was founded in June of 1997 and now has offices in London, Dallas Texas and Johannesburg. CommentUK is a registered limited company.

BACKGROUND TO COMMENTUK
It was out of unique circumstances created by South Africa 's socio-political history that the idea of Corporate Theatre was born. For decades, the vast, black workforce, millions strong, was cut off from most conventional methods of communication. By and large they had little access to TV and radio. They were largely illiterate; therefore print was of no use to them. Yet their employers, and later unions, health organisations and social welfare groups had to convey messages to these millions. Out of this need, a medium was developed to speak to the workforce. This was known as Industrial Theatre, and consisted of simple song-and-dance based productions, performed outdoors, on the factory floor or in mining compounds. Decades of Industrial Theatre paved the way for a culture where performance was seen as a legitimate medium for communication within corporations.

With the demise of apartheid in the 90's, Industrial Theatre was perceived to be part of the old regime.

CommentUK was the first company to reinvent the use of theatre and raise it to a corporate level. Scripting and performance became much more sophisticated and messages not so obvious. Corporate Theatre took a powerful but somewhat tarnished communication medium and once again made it relevant.

BACKGROUND TO CORPORATE THEATRE
Media saturation: means we are assaulted by literally thousands of media messages every day. CommentUK was created to cut through this clutter and get a message heard in a powerful way by the correct target audience.
Integrating COMMunication and ENTertainment, CommentUK specialises in providing corporate clients with high-end theatrical solutions as a means to transfer information.

This live medium may take the form of Internal, Business-to-Business, or Business-to-Consumer communications.

BACKGROUND TO LONDON OPERATION
Extensive research into the European and UK markets demonstrated a startling fact: even with the massive increase in experiential marketing in the 2000's, live theatre was being used in very instances.

Pioneered out of a necessity in a third world environment, could the medium be exported to the first world? Could it become a unique addition to an already thriving experiential industry.

In September of 2000, CommentUK launched its European opperation in London. In 2003, an office was opened in Dallas, Texas.

Early on, a number of high profile clients were attracted by the mechanism of CommentUK Corporate Theatre, BBC Prime and The Portman Group in particular. These campaigns garnered extensive press coverage both in the UK and in Europe, and hence established CommentUK and the medium of Live Theatre as a viable new communications product.
